TikTok is a flagship product of ByteDance Ltd., a global technology company operating a range of content platforms that inform, educate, entertain, and inspire people across languages, cultures, and geographies. The company has over 60,000 employees across more than 125 cities globally.

In India, TikTok has offices in several Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore with over 1,000 employees. The TikTok team in India comprises local employees who work across all critical business functions such as Operations, Marketing, Sales, User Growth, Legal, Finance, Public Policy, Trust & Safety, Partnerships & Alliances, Content Moderation and Communications. The content  moderation team in India covers 15 major Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati and more.

  • Data Practices: TikTok’s user data is stored in data centers in US and Singapore and strict controls on employee access. TikTok has never provided any user data to the Chinese government, nor would it do so if asked.
  • Trust & Safety:  TikTok India has undertaken several efforts to improve their T&S efforts. It’s an advanced content moderation system, combining advanced machine learning algorithms and a robust human content moderation team help moderate content for 15 major Indian languages.

Key Highlights of TikTok India

In April 2019, ByteDance announced an  USD 1 billion investment in India over the next three years.

#EduTok Program, a multi-phased integrated educational initiative aligned with the wider objective of democratizing learning for the Indian digital community on the platform was launched on October 17, 2019.


#EduTok Campus: Under this program, TikTok collaborated with leading institutions like NM College of Commerce and Economics, Indian Institute of Technology-Mumbai, and Kelkar (V.G. Vaze college), to engage with the student community to hone their talent by creating and sharing educational content on TikTok.
